Feature request

Hello,

In the software activator, there are "Recient Sessions" option, but it doesn't specify which sessions went to either SecureFX or SecureCRT, half the time it opens the one I wanted it to, other times it doesnt. Maybe have it specify out beside the session name (CRT) or (FX) so we can tell the difference between which session goes to what.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I noticed that I have a SecureFX button in my SecureCRT but I dont have a SecureCRT button in my SecureFX, that normal?

Thanks guys!

OH and one other thing, also in the Software Activator, there is a "Connect" option but it doesn't offer me the option of SFX or SCRT to connect with.

This is something we still need to address. We're leaning towards either having separate MRU lists or having a single list, but indicating which client the session is for. Do you have a preference?

We never added a SecureCRT button to SecureFX. I'd be interested to hear if you would find a SecureCRT button useful and what you would expect or want it to do.

This is another thing we would like to address. Currently, when the selected session is only configured for terminal emulation, SecureCRT is launched and when the selected session is only configured for file transfer, SecureFX is launched. However, when the selected session is configured for both, the application that started the Activator is launched, which is confusing. One possibility is to prompt when the session is configured for both. I'd be interested in feedback on that idea and other ways we could make it less confusing.

In the meantime, you can right click on a session and select which application you want to connect with.

About there not being a SecureCRT button in SecureFX... I thought the same thing... that it was missing for some reason. Didn't realize that you all had knowingly not added it.

As for what it would do... I would assume just launch SecureCRT. More of a convenience option than anything I guess.

How about having it open a terminal session to the same host SecureFX is currently connected to? (Since SecureFX is capable of multiple simultaneous connections, I would envision such a button in the actual window corresponding to a given session)

My preference would be to have a setting for this somewhere in the preferences.

Personally, I think SecureCRT recent sessions should launch SecureCRT sessions and SecureFX recent sessions should initiate SecureFX sessions. In cases of shared preferences where a host is configured for both, it would make logical sense to me that the application from which one makes the selection should determine what opens. To go to a list of recent sessions in SecureFX and have a SecureCRT window pop open would seem counterintuitive to me.

hmm.. I think maybe a seperate MRU list would be best.

Well as it is now, it opens the wrong program sometimes, so yes the button would be usefull IMO, so if it opens the wrong one, I could click the securecrt button and launch the correct one

but of course this is not an important feature, just a lazy mans feature.. lol

edit: also, if I need both crt and fx open for a project, the button in both programs would be usefull for that as well.. would certainly speed things up a bit

Well, I think instead of being able to click on Connect, it should have a little arrow like the Recient Sessions does (if more than one program is configured, else its clickable) and a drop down list of programs configured to use the Activator appear and from that you can click on the one you want..

Connect ->
----------- Secure CRT
----------- Secure FX
----------- Etc....

This has been implemented in beta 5. The Activator has separate menu items for SecureCRT and SecureFX recent sessions. Additionally, SecureCRT and SecureFX now maintain their own lists of recent sessions. Trying to combine the lists caused confusion because selecting a recently used session sometimes caused the other application to launch.

Beta 5 can be downloaded from the following locations.

SecureCRT 5.0 beta 5 installer
CRT 5.0 beta 5 installer
SecureFX 3.0 beta 5 installer
