Can vsftp return error codes?

The generic sftp client can exit with an error code if any step in a batch file fails. Can the vsftp client do something similar?

Based on an email response, the answer is "Nope."

Thank you for the question. The -b flag in OpenSSH causes sftp to run in batch mode. While in batch mode, sftp will exit and return an error code of "0" when any get, put, etc. fails. sftp returns a "1" and exits if the connection to the remote fails, or if the user cancels using CTRL-C. Currenty, vsftp does not currently support the batch mode.

A feature request to add meaningful exit status and return code reporting to vsftp has been added to our development database. Would you be able to go into a bit more detail about the type of behavior you would like to see in batch mode?

If an error occurred, would you prefer that vsftp return an error code and exit the operation, or would you like to see the error code returned and the batch continue on to the next line in the batch file?

The contact information from our e-mail correspondence has also been added to the feature request so that we may contact you should this feature become available.

Thanks again for the great feedback.

I like the way it works in sftp. If you put a '-' in front of the command, it reports the error, but ignores it. If you don't, then it reports the error and abends with an exit status.
