SecureCRT 6.0.2 (260) Large Memory Usage

I'm using SecureCRT 6.0.2 build 260 and if I'm seeing it use quite a bit of memory. Is this normal.

Example: Right now I have 2 telnet sessions open and it's using over 236Mb of RAM. Firefox with three tabs is currently using 119Mb.

Hi MrPaulAR,

I will need a little more information to understand exactly what is causing this memory usage increase.

What are the 'Logical columns' and 'Scrollback buffer' sizes configured to in the 'Terminal/Emulation' category of the Session Options dialog for these sessions?

That does seem very high. I have 4 ssh2 sessions open, each with a 1000 lines of scrollback buffer. SecureCRT is only using just over 7 meg.

Just for kicks I rebooted and opened up SecureCRT. I haven't opened a single session....just left it where it opens and the Quick Connect screen. It's using 124Mb of RAM.

Since I'm a registered user is this something that support should help me out with?

Scrollback was at 128,000 in the global config. Reduced it to 1,000 lines and restarted. Memory usage is at a more manageable 15Mb. Upped it to 10,000 and I'm up at 22Mb. I think I'll leave it here.

Hi MyPaulAR,

It is to be expected that SecureCRT will need more memory to allocate 128,000 lines of scrollback buffer.

I have entered your comments into a feature request to investigate any possibility of using less memory with a large scrollback buffer.

In the event that progress is made in this regard, we will post here.

If you would like to be contacted personally, feel free to send us a note with your request and a reference to this forum thread (3053).
