SecureCRT map VK_XBUTTON1

hello,

i am trying to map special mouse buttons to functions.

It appears SecureCRT does not support doing that.
i.e. i want to map VK_XBUTTON1 and VK_XBUTTON2 to "Send string".
doing that in the UI is not possible i think.

manually modifying the .key mapping file will trigger a warning, i added the following:

N VK_XBUTTON1 "ls -la\012"

=> "unknown virtual key VK_XBUTTON1 on line 1"

can you advise?

thanks alot

Hi Jackson1.

It isn't possible to map mouse buttons in SecureCRT, but you can map keys and button bar buttons. There are two ways to map keys. You can use the keymap editor to create a custom .key file or you can map keys from the Emulation \ Mapped Keys category of your Session Options. If you want to map a button, you must enable the button bar from the View menu first. Then you can right click in the button bar and map it the same way you would map buttons.

Will either of those things help you?

I have created an entry for you in our feature request database. We will post something here should a version of SecureCRT become available with the ability to map mouse buttons. If you would like to be informed via e-mail, please send a message to support@vandyke.com referencing this forum thread.

Thank you.

hello jj,

and thanks alot for your quick response!

i have been using securecrt since ~2000 only recently obtained the latest version. the button bar feature is nice, thanks for the info. it would be nice if you would be able to attach it to the other toolbars, right now its wasting ~20px of my laptop screen to dispay lonely 3 buttons :-)

i already do have a pretty advanced hotkey mapping (keymap editor).

the only thing that is missing, is being able to map mouse buttons (VK_XBUTTON1 etc).

my goal was: being able to navigate through the tabs with the mouse-back and mouse-forward buttons (popular used in a browser).

the only way to do that right now, is CTRL+TAB and ALT+1,2,3...

thanks alot, looking forward to an update!

No problem. I have created another entry for you in our feature request database. We will post something here should a version of SecureCRT become available with the ability to put button bar buttons on the toolbar to save space. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again.

hello!

is there any news on that?

I'd be even OK if you could map the mouse buttons (VK_XBUTTON1 etc) via editing the keymap file manually, without changes in the UI. That shouldn't be too difficult...

thank you!

Hi Jackson1,

Sorry, no.

Feature requests are typically prioritized based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the number of requests and the amount of implementation work required.

As JJH previously mentioned, we will post here if there's news.

The functionality behind the keymap still has to be tied into the app somehow.
