Command window send to all sessions

Is it possible for the command window in SecureCRT to default to send to all sessions? Couldn't find such an option.
thanks

Hello Taz,

Sorry, that functionality is not available presently.

I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database for the ability to configure Send Command to all Sessions to be enabled by default. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, contact support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #11915" in the subject line.

One way you may find it quicker to enable that option (and/or to toggle the Command Window in general) is to map those commands to buttons on the Button Bar, see attachment.

More info about the Button Bar and Command Window can be seen in the videos on our YouTube channel.

Hello Taz,

Also, if using version 7.2.x or later, you can write a script to access the Command Window and enable the Send to all Sessions option, if desired.

Changes in SecureCRT 7.2 (Beta 1) -- October 8, 2013
----------------------------------------------------

New features:

  • Added a script object CommandWindow that provides access to the command (chat) window from a script.

Then, you could map that script to run via a button on the Button Bar or create a desktop shortcut and add the /SCRIPT command-line argument to the "Target" entry box (see new attachment).

Here's some example script code (VBScript):

Code:
' Make the Command (chat) window visible:
crt.CommandWindow.Visible = True
' Enable 'Send commands to all sessions' option:
crt.CommandWindow.SendToAllSessions = True

That's interesting. Maybe I could specify a script on the command line as a workaround. Haven't checked but would that be supported? (Linux version)

Hello Taz,

Yes, if v7.2.x or later, but you would need to use Python. No syntax change needed for those two lines in Python.

Code:
# $language = "Python"
# $interface = "1.0"

crt.CommandWindow.Visible = True
crt.CommandWindow.SendToAllSessions = True

To run it from Terminal:

/usr/local/etc/SecureCRT /Script /path/to/script.py

This has been added to a pre-beta version of SecureCRT. If you'd like to try it, please email me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.

Hi Maureen,

Has this made it to production yet? I'm also interested in this feature.

Thanks!

Hi avonnieda,

It has!

Changes in SecureCRT 8.5 (Beta 1) -- June 28, 2018
--------------------------------------------------
- Added a global option that allows the Command window to be configured to send commands to all sessions, visible sessions, or the active session by default.
This option can be configured by navigating to Options > Global Options > Appearance. Using the Initially send commands to: drop down box select the behavior you would like to be the default.

Does this help get you the behavior you're looking for?

Talking I cant find it...

Hello
I am running this version: Version 8.3.4, and would like to send commands to all visssible sessions.

Not necessarily by default just as a feature sometimes - but I have looked everywhere and I can only: "Send commands to active session"

How do I change?

Nenifled

Hi nenifled,

You should be able to accomplish this be right-clicking in the command window, hovering over the "Send Commands to" option and then enabling "Visible Sessions".

Are you able to send commands to all of your visible sessions given this information?

Cool It worked :-)

I found it! - I think the problem was one off these two:

1) I was a little blind... :-)

2) I never right clicked in a "session window"... - but the first time I did - I was asked if wanted to "paste" or to "see the menu"....I chose the "View menu" after that I also started to get a menu in the lower "command window" :-)

PS: I saw that there was actually two shortcuts:
Crtl + Shift + T
Crtl + Shift + S

Thanks for the help.
