Question Host key database

Have been using SecureCRT 6.7.3 for several months (Win 7), and apparently quite "out of the blue", began getting these errors when connecting:

Failed to open the host key database file
C:\users\dsladmin\appdata\Roaming\VanDyke\Known hosts\hostmap.txt
Access denied.

When I click the OK button, it goes to a new window:

New Host Key
The host key database does not contain an entry for the hostname, which resolved to, port 22.
If you have received this message more than once for 999.999.999.999, this may mean that 999.999.999.999 is an “alias” which resolves to different hosts.
It is recommended that you verify your host key before accepting.
Server’s host key fingerprint (MD5 hash):
Accept Once (Accept & Save) Cancel

The above Accept & Save button is grayed – I went with Accept Once and logged in with no apparent problems. Again, this sort of came from "nowhere."

Sincerely -

Hello Patrick,

Thanks for posting. It seems like it might be a directory location problem. If it's not that, we can check permissions.

Usually the path for known hosts is:
Is there folder here?
