feature Request: Export/Import Keyword list

I saw how the new upcoming version of SecureCRT will allow you to export your session list and it got me thinking.

It would be nice if we could export/import the keyword files individually as well.

When the new version of SecureCRT is released, I plan to share my colorized keyword (Cisco based) in case anyone is interested in getting a jump start on the awesomeness that is colorized keywords. The ability to import may help people.

* Granted, even without the option a manual import consist of nothing but copy/pasting a file to the proper folder.

Question It has been a while for this feature

Was this feature forgotten?

I just want to share my Keyword list with some co-workers without sharing all of my other settings.

I have located the keywords file and tried to get create/edit the file manually, but that does not seem to work. If you copy a keyword list file manually, SecureCRT seems to recognize the file, but not the contents.

Hi zm186006,

I have updated the feature request to include your contact information. Should this feature become available we will be sure to post here. If you would like to be notified directly please send an email to Support@VanDyke.com with "Feature Request Forum Post 11566" in the subject line.

That being said you should be able import/move your keyword highlighting ini file from one machine to another. In fact, we recently created a script that should help make this process a little easier.

Your keyword ini files will be located inside a folder named Keywords that is inside your configuration folder. To locate your configuration folder navigate to Options > Global Options > Configuration Paths.

Once you've located the appropriate ini file you use the attached script to import the ini file on a different machine. To run the script select Script > Run and browse to where you have saved the script. Note: You may need to change the Files of type: option to All Files (*.*)before you can select the script file.

Using this information/script are you able to successfully import your keyword highlighting configuration on a different machine?

Thanks!! That script will be most helpful for my co-workers!

Would I have found this somewhere else?

zm186006,

Not yet, when I say "we recently created a script", I mean we were working on it yesterday. You would be our first user. We're hoping to get some feedback on its use before making it more widely available.

Other example scripts can be found on the Script Examples page.

Well, it did not quite work.

I had an old keywords ini from another computer and tried to import it using your script.
I got a message asking if I would like to enable the list for the 'Default' session.

I say yes, but it does not show up in my keywords' drop-down. Even if I restart SecureCRT.

Here is the ini I'm trying to import, if it helps.

zm186006,

It appears there may have been some modification/corruption of your ini file.

Does modifying the line:

Code:
Z:"Keyword List V2"=00000080
to:

Code:
Z:"Keyword List V2"=00000050
change the behavior you see?

Note: Accepting the change to the Default Session will enable this keyword list for every future session.

I actually changed it to:
Code:
Z:"Keyword List V2"=00000001
As per your reply I got in my email. You may have edited your reply since then.
Anyway, your script works!
I just tried importing my keywords from my work machine to my home machine and all is well.

Thanks!

zm186006,

I'm glad to hear it's working as expected.

I did modify the original response. The number listed on the Z: line should be a hex representation of the number of lines included. For example, your ini file contained 80 words to highlight, 80 converted to hex is 50. If the number contained on the Z: line does not match what SecureCRT finds in the file it can result in SecureCRT "ignoring" the file. I would suggest only modifying keyword files through the SecureCRT GUI to avoid causing corruption or having to calculate the new Z: value.
