Central Password management ?
I would like to know, if there is any plan to implement central user+password management for some sessions when needed.
Idea is to have ability to define credentials not only per session, but have choice use password entirely separate from sessions (and "share" it on some of sessions), so then have to change it one at place - once one/or more domain passwords changed - and not fill it for every single connection. It is frustrating every 14 days to fill password again and again "per session" when we have - for example 3-4 different passwords/per technology changed every 2 weeks. And - of course to be able to use similar approach for login "scripting" - to rewrite script per session (go to ena/config mode) every 2 weeks is a pain. Imagine, that we usually have about 200 ssh sessions ! So idea is to have some internal set of SecCRT only encrypted usernames + passwords for logging and also SecCRT only shared "strings"/variables, which can be used in scripting inside SecCRT. Do you plan something like that? For example - mRemote has something like 1 username (for rdp) which is shared among sessions... Every other features are amazing ! colorization of terminal output is fantastic. Unfortunately password management didt follow last trends :-( and are really pain for big networks... Thx a lot for answer. |

Hi tester1,
I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database for a substitution database for credentials. Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here. If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include Feature Request - Forum Thread #14380 in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website. Parts of your explanation make it sound like maybe you could use the bulk mechanism for changing passwords. You can employ the power of editing the Default session to make this change to all of your existing and future sessions. Here are some links to tips and a video that provide more details about using the Default session to make mass changes to multiple sessions: https://www.vandyke.com/support/tips/defaultset.htmlSince you would be making a change that affects many sessions, the recommendation is to export your config as a backup as a best practice. That can be done from the Tools menu (Export Settings), you would just specify an XML file where the info should be exported.
