Did you develop anything for tabs coloring?

Hi anil51138,

We didn't implement tab coloring, but we will post here if we do.

That said, I'm liking it now that I've found it.

It would have been much easier to locate if it had its own configuration screen under, say, Options / Edit Session Defaults. A button in the connect screen would work too.
This has been implemented in a pre-beta version of SecureCRT. If you'd like to try it, please email me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.

Tab Color Change

Hi

Did we add this feature to show tab color inherited from session color?

Regards
Anil

No, this feature has not been implemented.

I'm wondering if this is still being considered?

Here's my use case - I'm a network engineer doing work on production networks but also testing things with GNS3. I love SecureCRT and want to use it for both, but don't want to EVER accidentally configure a production router with config meant for lab testing (because I like having a job). To help protect myself, I want to make sure when GNS3 opens console windows in SecureCRT, that it uses a vastly different color scheme (for example black on white or white on blue for GNS3 router consoles, whereas I usually use white on black). Since using the /COLOR_SCHEME command line option affects all tabs in the whole session (or is ignored if SecureCRT is already open) I can't do this, and I'd really love having this command line option work PER TAB instead of globally, or a new command-line option to set a newly opened tab to a different color scheme.

I saw the scripting option but I'd also like to make this easy for coworkers to set up, and that's an extra step I'd prefer not to repeat for everyone.

Thanks!

Dear networker,

This is still under consideration, but it has not yet been implemented. If it is ever implemented, we'll be sure to post here so that you're made aware of it.

If you desire to have direct email notification of this functionality being implemented, feel free to send an email to support@vandyke.com with a subject of "Me too! /COLOR_SCHEME for individual tabs, please"

Also, as an alternative, you could try using this approach...
  • Create a session for each color scheme you'd like to use. Name each session according to the color scheme so it's easy to pick (RED, BLUE, ORANGE, GREEN, etc. as examples)
  • Make sure you set the desired color scheme for each session in the Appearance category.
  • For each of these "template" sessions, specify the hostname as something that doesn't really matter. For example: Myhost
  • When desiring to launch SecureCRT to connect to a desired_host using the properties of the "GREEN" session, use this command line syntax: SecureCRT /T /S GREEN desired_host
    For example: SecureCRT /T /S GREEN 192.168.232.166

Or, for one that uses the RED template session:
    SecureCRT /T /S RED 192.168.232.175

This works for me in SecureCRT version 8.3.2.

Does this workaround function like you want for your specific scenario?

Hmm... still more steps than I'd prefer to do for all my coworkers that need to use this machine, but seems like an easier workaround than the scripting method. Let me give that a try.

I'll probably follow your advice and send an email to track that feature as well.

Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know that session workaround did work for me, but I'm still hoping the /COLOR_SCHEME switch gets modified to work per-tab. Thanks!

Thanks for the report.

We'll be sure to post here if the /COLOR_SCHEME command line option becomes tab-specific.

Also, since you've sent in an email request, we'll reach out to you by email if the behavior becomes available.
