VShell: Disable banner?

Is there a switch to disable the banner in VShell? I'd rather not advertise the software or version.

Hello wheelbarrowjack,

Disabling a banner and suppressing the remote ID would be different settings, but all done in the registry.

Are you displaying an authentication banner?

Do you have the regular VShell (SFTP) or FTPS VShell (FTP/SSL) installed?

What version?

I'm using plain ole VShell for sftp.

Here's the string when I probe: SSH-2.0-VShell_3_9_3_656 VShell

Hi wheelbarrowjack,

Thanks for the clarification.
WARNING: If you use the registry editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on your computer.
There are three registry options associated with the ident string:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VanDyke\VShell\Server

"Ident Version"
"Ident Product"
"Ident Comment"

Here's notes on how they interact:
If neither "Ident Version" nor "Ident Product" is set, we use the real version and real product name. In this case, if the "Ident Comment" isn't set either, we continue to use the product name for the comment as well.

If either "Ident Version" or "Ident Product" is set, we use the configured fields. In this case, no comment is used if the "Ident Comment"
isn't set.
So to turn:

[LOCAL] : RECV : Remote Identifier = 'SSH-2.0-VShell_4_0_0_398 VShell'

into:

[LOCAL] : RECV : Remote Identifier = 'SSH-2.0-SSH2'

You would just edit Ident Version and enter SSH2 in the value data field.

Note that the VShell control panel should always be closed when working in the registry.
