Exporting secureCRT format private key to openSSH format private key
I (and I'm sure many others) have a private key generated by secureCRT which is used extensively. I've found that I need to also use this on other systems and then discovered the proprietry private key problem
![]() This would be great. |

Hi andy,
The root of this problem is that there is no standard describing the format of a private key. This means that each vendor creates a private key format that meets their needs. With Public keys, this is not the case. There is an IETF standard that describes the format that a public key should be in. This is done so that clients and servers from various sources can interoperate. The ability to write out or convert our private keys to the format used by OpenSSH is a request that we have considered before. If a version of SecureCRT is released that has this ability, would you like to be notified? If so, then I will need to get your contact information. Rather than have you post your contact information on the Forum, please send a message to Support@vandyke.com with a Subject of Attn: Shannon Re: Forum Post ID 860 Thanks, -bocks |

The ability to convert VanDyke format private keys to OpenSSH format has been added to SecureCRT 5.5, which is in pre-beta testing. The beta is planned for next week, but if you'd like to try it before then, please send an e-mail to me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.
