SCRT 5.x from a USB flash drive
I tried running SCRT 5.2 on a USB flash drive, and it is very slow.
I then installed 4.1.11 on my PC, copied the folder over (I use the same config directory, but in their respective executable folders), and tested again. I used a USB2.0 PNY Attache 2GB drive on
Times went like this: 4.1.11 ~ 15-20 seconds to be able to open a session when the Connect Dialog pops up. 5.2 ~ 1m15s - 1m20s seconds to the same point. I wonder if the 'program files' size difference (~7.8mb for 4.1.11 / ~20mb for 5.2) is really starting to have an impact here. Maybe time for a 'portable' version? ![]()

Thanks for reporting this. What kind of startup times do you see for 5.0 or 5.1?

I'll install each of these today & report back.

5.0.5 opens in around 30 seconds! - clicking 'close' in the Connect dialog commits almost immediately (2 seconds).
5.1 opens in around 1m10s - 1m25s - and clicking 'close' in the Connect dialog, takes approximately 25 - 30 seconds to commit. 5.2 also has the long delay when clicking 'close' in the connect dialog.

Thanks for doing those tests and posting the results. That information is very helpful.
It sounds like you have the global option "Show connect dialog at startup" set. Is that correct? (This option is found on the General page of the Global Options dialog.) Maureen |
