VShell Web Front-End ???

Is anyone aware of a way to create an easy-to-use web front-end for VShell? Asking some users to download and configure an SFTP client is a painful experience.

Correct. For internal IT folks and external vendors, using WinSCP works fine.

There is a business effort to allow internal (non-IT) and external users to have a common place to temporarily share files. The users need a very user friendly interface. Instead of standing up a new environment, I would like to use my existing VShell SFTP solution if possible.

I'm not aware of any web browsers with native support for the SFTP protocol, so at the minimum I think users would need an SFTP plugin for their web browser.

We don't currently offer any browser plug-ins, but I've added your posts to our request database and we'll post a follow up message to this forum thread if we offer this or a similar product in the future. At the risk of going off-topic a little, but in the interest of helping you find an immediate and acceptable solution, even with a browser plug-in, users would still need to configure connections: a hostname, username, password. If your particular SFTP client isn't user friendly, you might considerSecureFX. It's easy to install SecureFX and enter the information needed to connect to a server - when first run it asks for the necessary information, then saves it for users as a session so they can just connect to the session afterward.

Whatever solution I go with will have to be secure and no matter who the user is, they will at least have to put in a username and password.

I really need something like a web interface that ANYONE can launch, go the URL, enter a username/password and be able to upload/download files.

I also don't want the data hosted in the cloud so many third party solutions are out.

"Web browser" seems to come the closest to this requirement, but of web browsers don't support SFTP out of the box. I'm also not aware of any web browsers that natively support FTPS. SFTP and FTPS are the two secure file transfer methods VShell supports. If VShell supported HTTPS would that provide a sufficient level of security and ease of use out of the box for you?
