Migrate Sessions from AbsoluteFTP to SecureFX
Hello,
We're running an old version of AbsoluteFTP that has years upon years of stored FTP login details that are, quite frankly, not centrally stored anywhere else. Our web host recently upgraded their FTP server, rendering AbsoluteFTP unable to connect to all 175 hosting accounts we manage with this host. Obviously, we need to upgrade. We've downloaded/installed a trial version of SecureFX, and it seems to work fine. However, when we followed the instructions in this post, we were unable to get the existing sessions to load in SecureFX. We've tried several times and double-checked all settings and files involved. Nothing seems to be working. I'm just hoping someone can shed a little light on this. If we're able to get the sessions migrated over to SecureFX we'll be ready to purchase a full version and carry on happily with our existing stored session details. Any would be greatly appreciated. Best, Mike T. |

Hi Mike,
I'm sorry to hear that there are issues migrating the AbsoluteFTP sessions to SecureFX. I just need to get a little more information to find out what is happening. After following the instruction on the post that you mentioned, does a migration appear? Are any errors shown? Which version of SecureFX is installed?

Response to Question
Hi Teresa,
Thanks for getting back to me. After following the instructions in that post, which were to: -copy/rename the AbsoluteFTP .DAT and .IDX -move them to a new folder -set that folder as the configuration folder location for SecureFX -restart SecureFX nothing happens. I've restarted several times, double-checked the file names, ensured the file path is correct...but still nothing appears when I start SecureFX. There are no errors shown. The SecureFX version is Version 6.0.2 (build 260). Thanks Again! -Mike |

Hi Mike,
These steps should work fine as long as the files are rename as the following: AbsoluteFTP.idx to SecureFX.idxWere these the names the files were given? Are there any 'config' folders in SecureFX's installation folder? If so, does renaming this folder to 'configold' allow the migration to begin when SecureFX is next opened?

Ok, that worked, but...
Teresa,
In looking for the answers to your questions I came across a "migration.exe" file in the installation folder for SecureFX. Taking a chance, I ran the file. I followed the instructions, and I was able to get all of the session data migrated over successfully. The connections are now working in SecureFX. However, I ran into another problem: for some reason, SecureFX isn't recognizing the directory tree once it logs in with one of our FTP accounts. The result is that there is no easy navigating through the server. Double-clicking to enter one folder leaves you powerless to go back a step to the previous folder. This is going to cause a lot of headache for our developers. Do you know what is causing this error, and, if so, what we can do to fix it? I'd hate for this to be the one hang that stops us from purchasing the software... Thanks, Mike |

Hi Mike,
I'm glad to hear that the sessions have migrated properly after manually starting the migration. As for the session that is not displaying a listing, I just need a little more information. What is the operating system on the remote FTP server? Could you send me a log file from SecureFX? To configure SecureFX to generate a log file: 1) Open SecureFX and choose Options / Global Options. 2) Browse to the File Transfer / Options / Advanced category in the "Global Options" dialog and enable the "Enable log output to file" option. Note: If you're using a version of SecureFX earlier than version 3.0, this option is located in the Options / Advanced category of the Global Options dialog. 3) Specify a filename in the "Log filename" field. For example: C:\Documents and Settings\<your_username>\My Documents\SecureFX.log 4) Press the "OK" button to close the Global Options dialog. 5) Attempt the connection to the remote machine and perform the steps needed to replicate the problem. 6) Once the problem occurs, browse to the location of the SecureFX log file and send it to me by means of an e-mail attachment to support@vandyke.com.
