Hi Olaf,

Thanks for e-mailing the clients' log files and the server log file.

I do see that the OpenSSH client is communicating faster with the OpenSSH server than the SecureFX client is.

I've added your e-mail message and the forum posts to our request database so that our developers can investigate.

We'll send e-mail and post to this forum thread if we can offer a solution or have additional questions. If anyone else is experiencing the same problem and would like e-mail notification of any fix, please let us know and include "Forum thread 2437" in the subject.

Has this been fixed in 6.5? If not, when will it get fixed?

Hi Olaf,

This feature is has not been implemented, and a timeline for implementation has not been established, but it will still be considered for inclusion in a future release of SecureFX.

Transfer performance is a pretty important aspect of a file transfer application. What's the reason a decision to implement it hasn't been made yet?

Olaf,

Sorry for the slow reply. Development previously looked into the performance issue and unfortunately, we do not see it in house, which will make it difficult to address. We haven't given up on it, but at the moment, we are focusing on features we know we can make progress on. When we do come back to this issue, we will need assistance from people who have reported it in terms of providing additional information or running an instrumented build. I have your e-mail address, but if there's anyone else out there who would like to be involved with this, please send an e-mail to me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.

Didn't we already discover it's probably related to window size? That might be an easy fix.

When I was reviewing the history for that issue, I didn't see any notes about the slowness being related to the window size. For some customers, it seems to be related to being on a high-performance network.

High-performance? Do you mean high-bandwidth low-latency? Or high-bandwidth high-latency?

We compared SecureFX to OpenSSH sftp and the difference was window size (IIRC).

In one case it was high-bandwidth high-latency. The other customers didn't provide that level of detail.

Thanks for the additional information about what you saw in your testing. I will update our development database to include that.

With 'we' I meant someone from Vandyke and me. I emailed the logs. I can't reproduce it on LAN either, but on the internet it's easy.

Pre-release versions of VShell, SecureCRT (SFTP tab for SSH2 connections), SecureFX, and the ClientPack are now available that include changes that may provide for faster SFTP transfer speeds.

In our local testing, the changes have resulted in anywhere from 10% to 60% increases in speed.

If you are interested in trying a pre-release version of any of these products to see if SFTP transfer speeds are also better in your network environment, please send e-mail to support@vandyke.com and let us know which product (VShell, SecureCRT, SecureFX, ClientPack) and whether you need a Windows 32-bit or 64-bit installer. In the subject of your e-mail, please include "ATTN: Forum thread #2437".

SFX 7.0 performance is better (950 kbyte/s), but it's still not as fast as scp (3 mbyte/s), both from a Debian server.

Hi Olaf,

I am glad to see that the speed has doubled since your last benchmark post. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm glad too, but when can we expect the gap to be closed?
