Question Sync Secure CRT Config multible users/computer

What is the best and most efficient way to automatically synchronize the Secure CRT settings between multiple computers?

I need this between the same user and also between colleagues (different users). I think one of the problems is dealing with sensitive data like personal passwords. Is it possible to synchronize the session list and then correlate it with the local personal passwords data?

thx

Hi j,

The easiest way to share sessions is described in this tip on our website. As you mentioned, if sharing with colleagues, you would first need to clear your credentials using Default Session.

You can employ the power of editing the Default session to make changes to all of your existing sessions. Here are some links to tips and a video that provide more details about using the Default session to make mass changes to multiple sessions:

You would, of course, want to first export a version of your config with the credentials to later restore for yourself.

A real-time solution, but one that requires care in its use, is the personal config feature added in v7.2.x.

Changes in SecureCRT 7.2 (Beta 1) -- October 8, 2013
----------------------------------------------------

New features:

  • Added a global option to store personal data such as usernames and passwords in a location separate from the rest of the session data, which allows personal data to be kept private while other configuration data is stored on a network drive or on the cloud so that it can be used on different systems or shared with colleagues.

It's described in this series of videos but I like to include the disclaimer that this solution is very finicky. All users must be using the same version of SecureCRT and there are certain scenarios where you may need to merge the data back to one config. Additionally, you don't get to personalize such things as fonts, colors, etc. (that's a feature request):
