OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit
Version of SecureCRT: SecureCRT Version 8.3.4 (x64 build 1699) I know this has been posted on here before, but I've already looked into any DLP issues and we are not monitoring applications. Everytime I try to run SecureCRT I get an error stating "Failed to initialize application: cannot find window class" I've uninstalled the application and reinstalled to no avail. The only workaround to this is running the program as administrator. Is anyone else having this issue? |

Hi David_D,

We are quite convinced of the accuracy of our information, but I will be glad to try to collect evidence specific to your experience. ![]() When you get the error, is SecureCRT.exe listed in the Processes tab of Task Manager? If so, can you right-click it and choose Create Dump File? Then, in order to make arrangements to upload that, please email support@vandyke.com with subject line "Attn Brenda - Forum Thread #13476" and I'll provide instructions to upload it via our secure server. If not writing us from the email address associated with your VanDyke Software download account, please include that email address in the body of the email. Quote:

If so, rarely will an uninstall/reinstall resolve anything in SecureCRT. And especially not this issue because it has been proven in the past not to be SecureCRT's issue. I personally know of at least a dozen cases and probably half of those customers that contacted us were insistent such software did not even exist in their organization, but eventually they contacted the right person in the admin/IT team who made the appropriate entry in the DLP app and then all was resolved. ![]()

Yes, I am having the same issue. For me, I can run it as an admin, but that is quite annoying as I may start the program several times in a working day.
It was working without issue when on my Windows 7 laptop, and works find from home on my Windows 10 laptop, but this Windows 10 laptop (employer provided) SecureCRT fails to start with the error mentioned above. As mentioned by the support tech, when I launch it as an unprivileged user, it does not show in the Task Manager. It doesn't even start, just immediately quits with the error mentioned. ![]() |

Hi alexandersnyder,
This is not a SecureCRT issue. As you mentioned, the issue is only occurs on your employer provided machine because they have put application monitoring software in place to axe the process before it can even begin. You will need to work with your IT staff to create an exception for SecureCRT so that you do not have to elevate your privileges every time that you start the application. Please refer to the following Symantec support post for additional information: https://www.symantec.com/connect/for...rt-application
