Show more than 10 sessions in “Windows” menu

Hi forum members,
in SecureCRT, I inevitably end up with more than 10 tabs, with session names obscured.
Under “Window” menu I can see up to 10 sessions but not more. Is there a setting I missed to show more?

Hi Alex,

Please share some additional details:
  • What version of SecureCRT are you using?
  • On what platform/OS?
Would you attach a screenshot that illustrates what you mean?

Is the issue the truncated tab captions?

Hi Brenda,
Windows 10, SecureCRT v8.3.4x64. Screenshot attached - notice far more than 10 tabs/tabs, but "Window" menu drop-down only showing 10 - I want see all sessions in window/tabs.
* Additionally - feature request - "Window" menu drop-down, should show session status - connected/not-connected.
* Additionally - feature request - "Session Manager" should show if the selected session is already in window/tabs - so, I don't have to start new session if already connected.

Hi Alex,

I see, thanks for the clarification.

That feature is presently limited to 10.

I have added this thread to the following feature requests in our product enhancement database:
  • Ability to list all of the currently open (running) sessions in the Window menu (not limited to 10)
  • Add status indicators to the Session Manager or Connect dialog for sessions that are running in the main window
Should a future release of SecureCRT include either of the above features, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #13249" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.

For the above request (while in your screenshot all the sessions were locked), isn't the tab status indicator sufficient?

That can be configured (in Terminal / Tabs/Tiling category of Global Options) to use Background colors or Color rectangles if Icons is not sufficient.

No, because tabs are so squeezed, I can't make out the session names so their status is unhelpful, hence, my reliance on the "Window" menu drop-down..

Why 10? I get the 0-9 key shortcuts, but the remaining should still be listed, even if without key shortcuts.

Hi epaalx,

Thanks for the additional information. We'll be sure to let you know if the functionality you're looking for becomes available in a future version.

In the meantime you may be interested in the Minimum tab width option (Options > Global Options > Tabs/Tiling).
You can enter the minimum width of your tabs. Since SecureCRT will try to shrink multiple tabs to fit in one window, this option can be useful to keep your tabs readable. This option can be set from 20 to 300 pixels.

Progress

I was hoping this simple GUI request would be fixed by now, but alas, not. Programmatically, how hard is it to increase "Windows" drop-down beyond 10 sessions?

Additionally, Session Manager should highlight entries for which there's currently an open session so I don't unintentionally open another.

It's easier on some platforms than on others. What platform are you on?

This request has been added to our development database. We'll let you know if it gets implemented.

A new Active Sessions Manager has been added to a pre-beta version of SecureCRT for Windows. This is a dockable window like the Session Manager, which shows a list of the open sessions and their connection status. Would you be interested in trying it?

For anyone interested, the Active Sessions Manager that was referenced in Maureen's post is now available in the Beta 1 of SecureCRT version 9.1.0.

Here's the link to access the SecureCRT beta downloads.

For anyone who has feedback on this new capability, please send an email message to us at support@vandyke.com.
