Different colour for incoming and local echo

Hi,

A new user here, trying out the evaluation version. I am using SecureCRT to communicate with some embedded systems over a serial connection. Is it possible to have the locally echoed characters displayed in a different colour so that I can distinguish between what I'm sending / typing and what the other side is responding with?

I've been through the settings and I cannot find anything. I also didn't find anything about coloring the local echo in the forums.

I'm using a dumb terminal, since the protocol for this embedded system uses control characters for delimiting packets and most other terminals do not show them. I've also tried ANSI and Linux but haven't found anything to color the local echoes.

Thanks.

Hi dmcminn,

Thanks for the question. Currently, there isn't a way to colorize the local echo text. I have created a feature request in our SecureCRT enhancement database to add this type of functionality. Should we do so in the future, we will post to this forum thread.

If you would like to be notified directly, please complete and submit the form at the following location:

I second that.

Hi mrbeeye,

Thanks for the post. As mentioned previously, we will post to this thread if this capability is added to a future SecureCRT release.

It has passed four years, why this has not been implemented yet? Lately I cannot find a major feature or improvement in past versions of SecureCRT.

There are a number of factors we use to determine which features will get implemented. Some of these factors are:
  • How many requests have we received?
  • How frequently is it being requested?
  • How hard will it be to implement?
  • How does it fit in with other work that we've already committed to?
We have received several requests for this and may consider implementing it in the future. We will post something here if it gets implemented.

Maureen
