Question Q: Does SecureCRT support checking SSHFP records?

Howdy Forum,

I recently learned about the ability to publish SSH host fingerprints into DNS. Does SecureCRT support the ability to check those fingerprints and allow/deny connections based on them? The related RFC is 4255.

Admittedly, this is probably a very-rare use case so if the answer is "no" or "not at this time", I certainly understand. I'm more curious than anything. It seems like an interesting feature but doesn't seem to be widely supported yet.

Thank you,

Hi redhatnation,

It's not presently supported but I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database to add support for using DNS/DNSSEC to lookup host key fingerprints (RFC 4255). Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #12894" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.

Hi Brenda,

You are spoiling us with this exceptional customer support! Thank you for submitting a feature request. It should probably be a low priority since, from what I can tell, SSHFP usage isn't widespread...yet.

If you folks need someone to help test or debug the feature, I'm at your disposal. I'm using it in a few places now that are publicly accessible. I'll PM my contact info.

Thanks again,

-redhatnation

Thanks for following up on this. We are hoping to add support for this in the next version of SecureCRT. We'll post something here when it's available to try.

Maureen

Hi lamaral,

There hasn't been any movement on implementing this feature. I'll check in with the SecureCRT product director and post here if there are any updates.
