Hey everyone, yep we can approved that SecureCRT and SecureFX don't work now. I think we should wait the next release.

When we try to start app, we had errors that depend on version.

As shown on our system requirements page for SecureCRT, Ubuntu 20 is not yet a targeted platform for SecureCRT.

If support for Ubuntu 20 is added to SecureCRT, it will be listed as a targeted platform on the system requirements page. We will also post here and provide notification.

I've found tmp solution to start application on UBUNTU 20 LTS.
Add repo from previous ubuntu 18 LTS or 19 to file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bionic.list As example Ubuntu 18
https://gist.github.com/h0bbel/4b28e...11b12fa36aa8d1

Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install libicu60

Failing to support Ubuntu LTS is not great. Can you try to make a Ubuntu 20 deb for the 8.7.2? From alex.korotysh's research it isn't that hard, just build a deb with Ubuntu 20 dependencies. Thanks

We don't create or distribute packages of our software for Linux platforms that are not supported. At this time, we don't provide support for the Ubuntu 20.04 platform. Until such a point in time, individuals may choose to utilize workarounds like alex.k has presented, if they so wish.

The lack of immediate support in SecureCRT for a platform that was released only a few days ago is clearly a non-starter for you.

I completely understand your desire to avoid spending money on something that doesn't meet your needs.

We wish you only the best, and we'll still post here should support for Ubuntu 20.4 become available in the future.

I'm a big fan of SecureCRT, but I also agree that not supporting the latest LTS is not a great state of affairs...

At the very least I would expect a workaround and "we're working on it".

It is not unreasonable for your users to expect you to understand the importance of LTS releases and expect you to *anticipate* the release and test against it in advance of launch... 20.04 has been available for testing for ages.

Why wait until your users are experiencing issues before you act?

We will definitely be adding support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Ideally, this would have been done before it was released. Unfortunately, things are a bit less than ideal at the moment.

Before we claim support for a platform, we run through a battery of tests and address any issues that are found. I don't have a timeline for when an Ubuntu 20.04 installer will be available, but it is a priority.

Thanks to alex.korotysh for posting a possible temporary workaround. Please let us know about any problems you run into if you try this workaround.

We will post something here as soon as an Ubuntu 20.04 installer is available. Thanks for your patience.

Maureen

Installing SecureCRT and SecureFX 8.7.1 Bundle on Ubuntu 20

We still plan to add support for Ubuntu 20.04 some time in the future, but we don't yet have an ETA for when official support for Ubuntu 20.04 might become available.

In the meantime, there are some steps you can take to possibly get the Ubuntu 19 SecureCRT and SecureFX Bundle installer (or the Ubuntu 19 SecureCRT installer) to work on your Ubuntu 20.04 machine, namely:
Code:
# Download libssl1.0:
wget http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/o/openssl1.0/libssl1.0.0_1.0.2n-1ubuntu5.3_amd64.deb
# Download libicu63:
wget http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/i/icu/libicu63_63.2-2_amd64.deb
# Install libssl1.0:
sudo dpkg -i libssl1.0.0_1.0.2n-1ubuntu5.3_amd64.deb
# Install libicu63:
sudo dpkg -i libicu63_63.2-2_amd64.deb
# Install libpython2.7
sudo apt-get -y install libpython2.7
# Install SecureCRT (8.7.1 Ubuntu 19 installer)
sudo dpkg -i scrt-sfx-8.7.1-2171.ubuntu19-64.x86_64.deb
# Launch SecureCRT
SecureCRT&
Please let us know if you experience any difficulty with these steps.

I can confirm the above method worked for me on POP!_OS 20.04 running SecureCRT Version 8.7.1 (build 2171),

Though i skipped the install script:

# Install SecureCRT (8.7.1 Ubuntu 19 installer)
sudo dpkg -i scrt-sfx-8.7.1-2171.ubuntu19-64.x86_64.deb
