Thanks for the feedback.

I have several questions about your installation of VShell.

Did you use the tarball or the package to install ?

Is vshelld running as root or a different user ?

Also, if you connect with a shell client using SSH2, does your login shell get executed successfully ?

The libgssapi.so error shoudn't affect vshell's core functionality, and can safely be ignored in many cases - however if you are intending on using GSSAPI authentication in conjunction with Kerberos, it looks like there may be an issue with the version of the Kerberos libraries installed on this system that we'll need to help you resolve. We've received some feedback about the appropriateness of reporting this as an error (as opposed to just a warning), and are considering a change in this behavior in a future version.

Please keep us informed.

Thank You,

~JcJ

hi,

yes running as root, install via pkg_add, any i can connect normally with a client using ssh2

using putty

2005-04-25 09:53:29 Connecting to 10.1.1.15 port 22
2005-04-25 09:53:29 Server version: SSH-2.0-VShell_2_3_4_234 VShell
2005-04-25 09:53:29 We claim version: SSH-2.0-PuTTY-Release-0.53b
2005-04-25 09:53:29 Using SSH protocol version 2

sftp# pwd
/usr/home/blake
sftp#su
sftp# touch testfile
sftp# ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 root blake 0 Apr 25 10:07 testfile

sftp#su blake
-bash-2.05b$ touch testfile2
-rw------- 1 blake blake 0 Apr 25 10:12 testfile2

so umask permissions arent correct for normal users ?

using Coreftp LE (Sftp Client) is exactly the same only owners rw permissions.

i have set

DefaultUmask 0022
in /usr/local/etc/vshelld_conf

but have this anomally when logged in

-bash-2.05b$ umask
0077
-bash-2.05b$ su
Password:
sftp# umask
22

Right Guys, we have paid for this software, sent numerous emails that take weeks to get replies.

your company slogan "we listen. then make better software" doesnt seem to apply in this case.

vshell you say is only supported for FreeBSD 4.8 (Intel x86), i cant find any copies of 4.8 on any mirrors, freebsd is at 5.3 now, i can only find as far back as 4.11

ive managed to get it running on 4.11 but i have the same problem as before, no permissions after upload, despite umask changes.

we are currently using this with our customers and need this problem solved asap please.

I apologize for the delay. Have you sent e-mail to support@vandyke.com? For urgent issues, this is usually best.

We don't currently have support for FreeBSD 5.3. We are in the process of porting VShell to FreeBSD 5.3.

We now have a VShell build for FreeBSD 5.3 and 5.4. The installer should be available soon. If you need an installer soon, please send me a private message or e-mail and I will send you a release.

Regarding the GSSAPI error loading the library:
Quote:
Apr 21 08:59:02 sftp vshelld[124]: err ,GSSAPI authentication will not be available for the following reason: Could not load library 'libgssapi.so': /usr/lib/libgssapi.so: Undefined symbol "krb5_mcc_ops"
If you remove gssapi from the allowed authentications in vshelld_config, the server will no longer try to load the library and report the error. For example you could change the configuration to:

AuthenticationsAllowed { publickey, password, keyboard-interactive }
