SecureCRT SSH login mystery

Using SecureCRT Version 7.2.0 (build 415) on OS X Mavericks and having some challenges with SSH into a Cisco switch.

* First problem is SecureCRT seems to be sending an extra carriage return with the username. The line feeds look fine when I'm logged in but after the username prompt I'm getting either "Password authentication failed" followed by a Password prompt or I get a password change prompt which is what happens if I were to hit at the password prompt.

Either way it looks like something extra got sent with the username. I'm entering the username manually and have the same issue whether I check "Display prompts in terminal window" (which I prefer) or uncheck it.


* Second problem is that for one username SecureCRT seems to have memorized the password. If I enter username Aadmin I go straight in with no password prompt. If I enter username Badmin I get a password change prompt.

* Related question: Is there a way for me to tell SecureCRT to NEVER NEVER EVER remember the user or password?

Note: I just tried another switch and noticed that the login was fine with local login but broke when I changed authentication to TACACS (ACS).

Because you see this only with TACACS and SecureCRT is constant, I would suggest taking a look at the TACACS configuration.

Do you see this issue when using any other terminal emulator?

There are a few locations where a password may be saved. It sounds like you have Keychain enabled. You can disable the use of Keychain in the General category of the Global Options dialog.

Additionally, you should make sure that you are not automating the logon in the Connection / Logon Actions category of the Session Options dialog.

It is not currently possible to prevent the saving of passwords in SecureCRT on Mac OS X. Should we add this capability, we will post to this forum thread.

In the meantime, the other place a password would be saved is the Connection / SSH2 category in the Session Options dialog.

I'll check through those locations and see what I turn up. I do know that logon automation is OFF.

I also know that the constant saving of the username is hugely annoying.

I do not see the problem with SSH from CLI.

This issue was resolved by modifying the session configuration via the GUI and at the .ini file level.
