Local Shell for Windows?

The linux version allows for local shell access. Are there any plans to allow local shell access (cmd.exe) for windows? I believe this is the only feature I feel I am missing.

Hello sprink,

I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database for access to cmd.exe inside of CRT SecureCRT window (Windows local shell). Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct e-mail notification, contact support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #11039" in the subject line.

Hi Brenda,

Could you please add to the feature request asking to allow letting the user configure which executable is run as the local shell? I'd also like to see this feature, but I would rather run PowerShell in the local session. cmd.exe is, for most intents and purposes, obsolete.

Hi Matt,

Yes, I altered the summary of the existing feature request to include PowerShell.

I know this is an old thread but -- Just wondering if there has been any movement on this feature request. I've been trying to pull a friend away from another product but the ability to open a local shell in a tabs as he does in the other product is the hang up. I've been waiting to see it too. Thanks!

Hi WizardXL883C,

There hasn't been any change in status of this feature request. Local shells on Windows are not the same as they are on *NIX operating systems.

We will post to this thread if this feature is ever implemented.

In the meantime, you could use a server on the local machine and connect to that.

Hello,

I would like to put in my +1 on this feature request. I'd love to be able to connect to a local powershell terminal from within SecureCRT and it's a major missing feature in my opinion especially for those of use who do both local development and remote management of servers on the same machine. Having to have two different terminal emulators open at the same time is a bit messy and it'd be wonderful if SecureCRT could do both -- even if it were to just be a wrapper containing powershell.exe in a tab.

Hi, jchamb2010.

Thank you for your interest in this feature! I can see how the ability to connect to a local PowerShell from within SecureCRT would streamline your daily tasks. I have added your +1 to the feature request!

We will be sure to post here if the feature becomes available in a future release of SecureCRT!

+1 for the feature request and I would add a Cygwin bash shell to the list of supported local shells.

Hi marti,

I went ahead and noted your requests to add support for both CMD and for Cygwin in SecureCRT! We will be sure to post here if support for either are added in a future release of SecureCRT!

If you prefer direct e-mail notification, contact support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #11039" in the subject line.

Lightbulb

Hi guys,

I am just testing this software and find it amazing but the lack of some sort of local shell kills the deal for me...

I really hope at some point the development team will implement it, we are almost in 2019, even WINDOWS has WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) ... use that maybe ?

Until then I will use my current one. But please... please do implement this as I would really like to give you my money

Hi all,

I have good news (potentially)!

Local shell is now available in a pre-release build of SecureCRT/Windows.

One caveat though:
You have to be running Windows 10 build 1809 or later (or Server 2019).

If your environment meets that requirement and you would like to try a pre-release build, please email support@vandyke.com and include the following:
  • Windows local shell pre-release build (or similar in subject line)

  • If not writing us from the email address associated with your download account, please include that information in the body of the email.

Any plans to make a bash shell possible?

Hi Brenda,

Thanks very much for the download link earlier today! I've installed it and it looks great! I see in the session options there's a dropdown for either Cmd.exe or PowerShell. Will it be possible at some point to manually enter a bash / Cygwin shell as well?

Thanks!

-Adam
