Change password for specific sessions?

Hi,

is there any different way to change password for sessions than this: https://www.vandyke.com/support/tips/multisessions.html ?

We have dozens of session folders and they include many sessions. Some of these sessions are using same password but not all. It is very hard to change every password manually and the password need to be change every 3 months.

So I'm wondering if there is any easier way to do this? Is it possible to create "group" of devices and change those password? Or is it possible to tell specific session that use "default session password". And if I change that "default session password" it would change password for all session using that option.

Thank you for your help!

Yes, this tip that goes hand-in-hand with multiple sessions and describes how to change Default Session/all sessions, but you have already mentioned Default Session below so I believe you are already familiar with it.

Yes, in this case the "changing multiple sessions" mechanism would work.

No, there is not unless you maybe put such info somewhere to distinguish sessions as such. Perhaps it could be entered in the Description field or the session names themselves could contain a tag that lets you determine this.

The main issue with saved passwords is they are encrypted in the session INI files. So there is not a good way to handle this even with scripting.

And, again, as we like to make known as often as possible:

It is generally not a security "best practice"
to save passwords regardless of the application in use.

Thank you for your response.

As far as I know this overwrites the username in all existing sessions? This is not what I want. And if you select default session, then username is used only in newly created sessions.

That multi session tip is not suitable for our case because we have dozens of session folders and they include many sessions. Some of these sessions are using same password but not all. It is very hard to change every password manually and the password need to be change every 3 months.

Have you any other suggestions?

Sorry, not that is available presently.

I have added this thread to a feature request in our product enhancement database for a substitution database for logon actions (username/password). Should a future release of SecureCRT include this feature, notification will be posted here.

If you prefer direct email notification, send an email to support@vandyke.com and include "Feature Request - Forum Thread #12999" in the subject line or use this form from the support page of our website.
