Skipping Hosts in a Host-file

The way to read ip-address and/or names of hosts from a txt-file is well documented on the VanDyke support site.

However, I took this idea a bit further.

1. The loop that gets the hostnames...

Connect via Jump Box

I've been using the 'Jump Box' approach for many (10+) years.
Just have the script connect to the JumpBox, then read (from a .txt file) the names of the servers to connect to. That works great !

Ask for server

The simplest way to do this, is to ask in the script, which server to connect to:

str_SRV = crt.Dialog.Prompt(txt,"Which server do you want to connect to ? ","Default_Server",False)

Cool Alternative

With the method above, it could become difficult to track the information that comes back from the systems (= logs), as you don't know in which order they will reply.

When faced with this problem...

Selecting file in folder

Let me add another tip :

If, like me, you use different lists of devices and commands, you don't want to select them by typing the name of the file. The risk of making a typo is too big, and you...

Multiple hosts/commands

I have a script that does what you are describing (and more).
Alas, the script contains proprietary information, and it would take me too much time to remove all that (script = 2000 lines).

But...

Config on multiple devices

I would suggest to use a text file with the list of routers.
This method is described on the Vandyke support pages.
I think there is an example as well.

But, instead of just using a list of the...

Running multiple scripts

It depends on how you define 'running multiple scripts'.

It is perfectly possible to open multiple tabs, and run a script in each of them, at the same time.

Line missing

The script is missing the lines that put the captured data in the Excel-file:

e.g.:

ws.Cells(row, 1).Value = strValue
row = row + 1

Multiple hosts

The easiest way is to create a text-file with your ip-address (one per line), then read them one by one, in a loop

Script steps:
1. Open the text-file with the ip-addresses.
2. Read a line with...

Wink Testing SecureCRT under Lion

Like Pickerin, I have been a (Secure)CRT user for over 10 years. I was one of the users that put 'an OS X version' on the wishlist, and I was VERY happy when that happened. I am now using a MacBook...

There is no need to define the Strings first (xxxString = ..).
Just put the string in the function.

# $interface = "1.0"

SecureCRT version

Hello Teresa,

I'm using SecureCRT 5.0.3 (build 1040).
The 'append' works fine in 4.0.9 (build 460). It also worked fine in the earlier versions of CRT (I've been using 'append' in CRT-scripts for...

Basicly:
