What is "Clone Session"?
From the description, I figured it would take my SSH session on one tab and then create a duplicate by opening a new tab and SSH'ing into that same device again.

When I try this, I get:
Could not open terminal session channel.

Reason: The channel could not be opened because of a resource shortage.

Server error details:

I can manually SSH into the device twice, but the 'clone' option doesn't seem to do what I thought it would do automatically.

I'm running SCRT 7.2.0

Hi Casey,

Your assumption is actually not correct, but I can see how you would think that. When SecureCRT clones a session, it uses a second channel over the existing transport. Some servers don't allow multiple channels as you have found.

Would you like me to create a feature request to add an option to clone over a new transport rather than trying to open a new channel over an existing transport?

It's not a huge deal, but it would have been helpful in a situation I just had that required us to log in to the same device multiple times. It would have been a bit of a time saver considering how many times we had to do it on multiple devices.

Hi Casey,

Understandable. I am big on timesaving also. I have created a feature request to add an option to clone a tab on a new transport for those servers that don't support SSH channels. Should we add this feature in a future SecureCRT release, we will post to this thread.

If you would like to be notified directly, please complete and submit the form at the following location:

The ability to clone a session on a new transport has been added to a pre-beta version of SecureCRT. Please email me at if you'd like to try it.
