Crash Dumps

I assume there is a similar procedure for gathering crash dumps for OSX as with Windozes?

Can you post the instructions as I had the client hang on me and had to actually exit it completely and then restart.

It would not let me re-open a session. :(

It was during a 10GB transfer

Thx.

Hello Neflem,

When SecureCRT on MacOS crashes it should create a crash dump automatically, and a window should appear showing where the crash dump was created. If you didn't see a window about a crash dump, a crash dump was probably not created, but you could search for SecureCRT*.tar.bz2.

How did you end the SecureCRT process?

Can you list the steps you followed for the 10GB transfer (was it SFTP tab, or ASCII transfer, etc.)?

Are you able to replicate the problem?

I did a "find" on my puter and did not locate any crash dumps.
So, I'll go thru the logs and see if anything jumps out at me.

I was not using the sftp tab (didn't even see that) :(

I was just using SecureCRT for monitoring.

Basically, I was log'd into a server in Australia and started a scp copy to my server here in Canada.

For what ever reason the session died/stalled.
And when I attempted to reconnect, I could not.
I had to completely exit SecureCRT then restart it.
Once restarted, I could again do everything.

The funny thing is that I run "screen" on all my *nix boxes.;)
So, even though the session dies, screen continues to run on the server and I can reconnect without any type of data/session loss.

The next time SecureCRT appears to hang, you can force a crash dump as follows:
  • Open the Activity Monitor.
  • Select SecureCRT.
  • In the View menu select Send Signal to Process.
  • Select Abort (SIGABRT) then click the Send button.
  • In the SecureCRT quit unexpectedly window select the Ignore button.
  • The next time you start SecureCRT, click the SecureCRT icon at the right and a Report Crashes to VanDyke Software, Inc. window should appear.
  • In this window, select the Report button. The window will say "Packaging crash information".
  • When the crash information packaging is complete the window will report where the crash dump is located, generally it will be located here: /Users/username/Desktop/SecureCRT_Crash_report0.tar.bz
