SecureCRT and multitail problems

Hello:

I'm having some difficulty getting SecureCRT 5.5.1 and multitail 4.2.0 working properly. SecureCRT is running on my Vista32 and multitail is running on my openSUSE 10.1 machine.

multitail is a program that allows one to "watch" a log file, for example. It also can filter and color code the various items in the log file lines. As a system's log file grows, multitail will scroll the older lines towards the top of the screen and then add the newer lines to the bottom. This is where my problem is.

First let me point out that multitail works properly when run from an xterm and my X server. However in SecureCRT, when the log file grows, many times the existing lines are not scrolled upwards and the new line(s) just overwrites the lowest existing line(s).

In both my xterm and SecureCRT sessions my shell's TERM is set to 'xterm'. And in SecureCRT I have my terminal type also set to xterm.

I've spent a fair amount of time trying various option combinations to no avail. I'm sure I've overlooking sometime silly but can't figure it out. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Bschang,

I just need a little more information to find out what is happening.

How many 'Logical rows' and 'Logical columns' are specified in 'Emulation' sub-category of the 'Session Options'?

Before starting Multitail, is 'New line mode' selected in the 'Current modes' section of the 'Modes' sub-category under 'Emulation' in the 'Session Options'?

Could you send me a raw log from a connection that shows the line being overwritten with Multitail?

To create a raw log:

1. Before connecting with the session, select Raw Log Session from SecureCRT's File menu.

2. In the Select Log File dialog, choose a folder and filename in which you would like the log text to be stored and click the Save button. At this point, if you open the File menu, you will notice that Raw Log Session now has a check-mark next to it; this indicates that raw logging is activated.

3. Now connect to the remote machine and perform the actions which cause the reported problem to occur.

4. Disconnect the session and select Raw Log Session from the File menu to turn off the raw log feature.

5. Browse to the location of the raw log file and attach it to your reply.

Just send the log to support@vandyke.com and use the subject of ATTN: Teresa Forum Thread 2423.

Teresa:

Thank you for your reply.

Answers to your questions:

(1) My logical screen size is 61 rows and 172 columns
(2) No, "New line mode" is not selected before running multitail.

I have generated the raw log file. I'll send it to the email address you specified.

Again, thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Brian,

I did receive your email with the log.

It will take me a little bit to go through the raw log to see what is happening but I just wanted to let you know that it did arrive.
