Instructions for SecureCRT on U3

I've posted instructions on how to get SecureCRT working on U3 at my blog : http://www.gilzow.com/blog/?p=8

If Vandyke is ok with it, I can pack up an eval copy and make it available. Otherwise, follow the directions carefully and you should be able to have a working copy on your U3 USB drive. I dont work for U3, and have just had a baby (well, my wife did most of the work) so I really dont have time to offer support if you cant seem to get it to work. I'll TRY to offer help if I have time. I just wanted to put the information out there since I've already spent the time to figure it all out.

Thanks for posting this information and for writing up the instructions for how to install SecureCRT on a U3 drive. We are planning to make a U3 installer available for SecureCRT and SecureFX 6.0. For people who don't want to wait, they can use your instructions.

If anyone would like to try the U3 installer when it's ready and you haven't already sent us e-mail, please send an e-mail to me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.

Maureen

Trouble with U3

Hi gilzow2,

I followed your instruction to set SecureCRT up on my U3 device. You say:

I would suggest re-opening the manifest file and make sure the Action Arguments line is what we put in. I have had a couple of problems where I would put in the arguments, and it wouldn't save correctly.

You don't say what to do if this problem occurs. I can't get it to save the Action Arguments. How do I correct that?

Regards,
sE

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Well, when the change wouldnt "stick" for me, I just put the Action Arguements back in and tried saving again. If that doesnt work, open up the manifest.u3i with an XML editor (or even plain old Notepad) and look for the element <appStart>. You'll need to change it to
Code:
<appStart cmd="%U3_HOST_EXEC_PATH%\U3Action.exe">-appStart -SIHost "SecureCRT.EXE" \"%U3_DEVICE_EXEC_PATH%\SecureCRT.EXE\" /F %U3_DEVICE_EXEC_PATH%\Config </appStart>

hope that helps!

Action Argument not sticking

silentEar,

I had a similar issue with the action argument not saving. I played around with it and what I found was on the Manifest Entries tab, I left out one of the items. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly which one it was. But I believe it was either the Vendor URL or the Short Description. Once I did that it kept the settings through the save.

Thanks.
