Excel Hyperlinks
I recently upgraded to version 6.7.3 and now my Excel hyperlinks no longer work with Secure CRT. The hyperlinks are of the format telnet:172.16.255.255. This used to launch Secure CRT and connect to the ip address listed. Now it doesn't drop the "telnet:" at the beginning so I get errors saying the hostname lookup failed: host not found. If i go and edit the session, it will eventually connect.

Hello Beth,
Telnet:IP_address is not correct syntax. Telnet://IP_address is the correct syntax. However, the former syntax was accepted circa SecureCRT 5.x and the behavior was changed in a later version. We have since reverted so the functionality can be achieved using the prior (incorrect) syntax. This fix was included in SecureCRT 6.7.4 and later. Changes in SecureCRT 6.7.4 (Official) -- February 2, 2012 --------------------------------------------------------- Bug fixes:
The current release is version 6.7.5 and the installers are available here. You should be eligible to upgrade to that version.

Thank you for the response. I am running 6.7.5 but the outdated syntax still doesn't work. If I use telnet://ipaddress, it does work. This will just require updating over 1000 hyperlinks so if I could use either would be great. Many of our hyperlinks pre-date our use of Secure CRT.

Hi Beth,
I ran a test with Excel hyperlinks and SecureCRT version 6.7.5 and the telnet:IP_address syntax worked. Would you please re-verify the SecureCRT version number? (Help / About SecureCRT...) Has anything else changed regarding your SecureCRT installation?

Version 6.7.3 (x64 build 292)
Nothing else has changed. It stopped working when I upgraded to the last major release. I did find a macro that I can run that will update the hyperlinks so I can run that on each of the worksheets to update the spreadsheet. Not quite as time consumming as updating each link individually. |
