Copy & Paste from UNIX to Windows
Hello all,
I am editing a file in a UNIX SecureCRT session using vi. I would like to copy and paste a line larger than 86 (my set for logical columns) characters into Windows. This line is already show as 2 lines in the telnet screen, but it is a single line inside the file. Below is a sample line that I am trying to copy: ORA-1652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace AURORA_TE MP Event that it is a single line in the file, SecureCRT is breaking it up in 2 lines during the copy and paste. Does anyone know a way to copy and paste the line as a single line without increase the logical columns value? Thank you in advance. |

Hello cesardba,
Thanks for posting your question. Which version of SecureCRT are you running? What settings do you have in vi? To find out the settings in vi, type ESC:set. Press the Escape key to go into command mode, then ':' to go into ex command mode, and type "set". |

Hi Michael,
I have a similar behaviour/issue in vi pasting the output back to the unix shell or windows. I copy a long line (a single line) from vi that displays over 2 lines on my xterm window in SecureCRT. (verified by issuing a set list in vi to see the $ symbol at the end of the line) and it breaks it up into physically 2 lines when pasting it. This is a pain when you are pasting long command lines (that you may have spooled/captured to a local file on the host) back onto the command line - I have to paste it somewhere else and then recopy it back and paste it again. Incidentally copying/pasting a long line from your shell history back to the same shell works fine. My build is Version 6.5.2 (build 446) - Official Release - March 11, 2010 Is there a workaround to this or a release where it doesn't behave like this. Thanks Neal |

Neal,
I believe this is an issue with your settings in vi. Your test with pasting at the command prompt confirms that the issue is not SecureCRT settings. What do you see when you type "set" in vi (ESC:set)? Last edited by miked : 08-03-2010 at 09:36 AM. |
