Moving an installation

Hi.

I have an installation of SecureFX and CRT on a hard drive which is accessible but is not running Windows anymore due to hardware failure.

Is it possible to pull the profile with all my saved sessions and settings from the old drive and put it on a new one?

Also, that the profile in question is for version 6 of the software. On my new new drive, I obviously have version 6.5.

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan

Hello Jonathan,

Sorry to hear about the hardware failure. SecureCRT and SecureFX use a configuration folder to store settings, so if you can find the folder and copy it to the good drive you should be able to use your sessions. Version 6.x configuration files (.ini files) have the same format so there's no problem with 6.5 reading it, no migration will be necessary.

One way to find your configuration folder on the problem drive/hardware is to search for a file named Global.ini. If SecureCRT and SecureFX were integrated (sharing the same sessions) then the default location of the configuration folder is:
%APPDATA%\VanDyke\Config
On Windows XP this is usually:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\VanDyke\Config
On Windows Vista and Windows 7 it's often in:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\VanDyke\Config
The Global.ini file is always in the configuration folder. Your sessions are saved in a folder named Sessions, located in the configuration folder.

You can copy the contents of configuration folder from the old drive to the SecureCRT and SecureFX configuration folder on the new drive. When you start SecureCRT and SecureFX you should see your settings.

If SecureCRT and SecureFX were not integrated then there will be two configuration folder, but the process is the same. Copy the SecureCRT configuration folder contents from the old drive to the new computer's SecureCRT configuration folder. Repeat for SecureFX.

To find the configuration folder location on the new drive where SecureCRT and SecureFX are running, open the SecureCRT (or SecureFX) Global Options / General category. The location is listed in the bottom right corner of the window.

Does this information help you get your SecureCRT and SecureFX settings onto the new computer?
