View Full Version : Couple of long-standing probs

This is with Secure FX, the latest beta included.
The problems are:
When I drag and drop a file from an outside folder to my FTP space, it just does nothing. I have to DELETE the file in the FTP space before I can upload it (it won't replace it). This is odd.
ALSO:
When I download files from FTP, it still asks me now and then whether I want to transfer it as a binary file and all the other questions in the boxes (remember this action for all similar files etc). This can be a nuisance if you have left the house for 12 hours and expect to find stuff waiting for you! Very few people would expect to receive files as anything other than a binary these days, let's face it. This is despite setting the default file transfer option as binary and to overwrite (do not prompt etc). Any chance you could look into these two little matters whuch just hinder things a little every now and then. Otherwise, Secure FX is terrific. Adding the sounds was a very good idea.
Hello lordbeau.
When I drag and drop a file from an outside folder to
my FTP space, it just does nothing. I have to DELETE the
file in the FTP space before I can upload it (it won't
replace it).
How do you have the "Action For Existing Files" setting
configured in the "File Transfer" category of your Global
Options?
If you choose "Confirm Overwrite" or "Always overwrite" are
you able to upload and replace the file?
When I download files from FTP, it still asks me now
and then whether I want to transfer it as a binary file and
all the other questions in the boxes (remember this action
for all similar files etc). This can be a nuisance if you
have left the house for 12 hours and expect to find stuff
waiting for you! Very few people would expect to receive
files as anything other than a binary these days, let's face
it. This is despite setting the default file transfer option
as binary and to overwrite (do not prompt etc).
When you add a file type to the "File Types" category of
your Global Options and you associate a transfer type with
it, that transfer type will be used. Setting the "Default
Transfer Type" setting in the "File Transfer" category only
affects UNKNOWN file types. What that means is that if a
file type is listed in the "File Types" category and it
doesn't have a transfer type associated with it, the file
transfer will stop when it finds that type of file and ask
you what transfer method you want to use.
If you want all file types to be transferred as Binary, you
can set the default transfer type as Binary and remove the
all of the file types from the "Registered File Types" list.
Does that clear things up for you?
I have also added your name to an existing entry in our
feature request database for the Default transfer type in
SecureFX to have the ability to override unknown transfer
types or for SecureFX to be able to automatically select the
proper transfer type.
Have you tried transferring with a right click drag and drop
and choosing Binary?
Thanks
JJH

For some reason, I had "overwrite if older" selected for the file transfer so now I have changed it to always overwrite and they transfer fine.
I have gone through the options and made sure that "default transfer" is set to binary. Does this affect downloads as well as uploads? It was the downloading of files onto the local computer that kept hindering it before and it kept stopping to ask....
I will keep an eye on it and report back!
Many thanks.
Hi lordbeau.
Thanks for the update. I'm glad you got it working. That
setting will be in effect ofr both uploads and downloads.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact
us again.
Thanks

If you'd like to try it, please send e-mail to me at Maureen.Jett@vandyke.com.
